CB Monster Meet Details

Hello swim families,

We are very close to our very first swim meet and I'm so excited for the kids to show off the hard work that they've put in the past few weeks.

Here are some important details:

1. How will my child get there?

ALL students will travel to the meet together on a bus. All swimmers that are competing should meet the bus in from of the CBHS Cafeteria at 7:45 am on Saturday morning. Yes... all students HAVE to ride the bus.

2. What to bring?

Students should have a swimsuit, goggles, at least two towels, and should wear their team warmups. In addition, please have them bring a refillable water bottle. It's also a very looooong day, so cards, phones & chargers, etc. are great to keep the kids occupied. There will be a snack table with healthy snacks for the kids to munch on during the day, however, you may want to pack a few favorites for your swimmer. Greasy snacks most often end up as pool vomit, so try to keep them small and healthy. Think granola bars, fruit, protein bars, nuts, etc.

3. What time should I be there?

The meet will begin at 10:30 am, however, please note that the stands are small, crowded, and fill up fast. If you would like a seat in the natatorium I suggest that you get there earlier than that.

Note... NO parents are allowed to wait/sit/stand on the deck except those acting in an official capacity.

There will be a timers meeting at 10 am on the deck, so if you have signed up for this role, please be at the facility no later than 9:45 am.

4. What time will it be over?

The timeline currently has us finishing the meet around 2 pm. The nature of a swim meet is generally three hours of waiting and 30 seconds - 1 minute of exhilaration... Rinse and repeat. The time that your swimmer is finished will depend on the events they are swimming.

NO Swimmer should leave with a parent until one of the coaches have verified that they have finished all of their events. We have several students who are out sick, so even if your child was initially only signed up for two events, they may end up swimming four as relays get shuffled and filled in.

We are so excited for this meet. The kids have been putting in work every day in the pool and we have already seen so much improvement. As parents, you have an incredibly important role to play in our team. Not just as volunteers, but as parents. Please rest assured, Coach Smith and I are taking notes when the kids are in the water about their strengths and planning for the upcoming week based on what we see that they may need.

Your role is an even more important one than coaching on Saturday - chief encourager. We ask that you take this chance to find opportunities to focus on the improvements and wins that your swimmer has made over the past weeks. Be it dropping time, mastering a great dive, or trying something new... these are big accomplishments and worthy of acknowledging. We will remind them as well, but our praise often pales in comparison to yours. One of the things that I love about swim is that every time you get in the water you have an opportunity to improve on something. Build on those improvements and before long you've got a team of champions.

If you have concerns or questions about your swimmers progress, send Coach Smith or I an email and we will set up a time to talk to you about it after the meet is concluded. We can give you specific feedback about your swimmer and where they are improving and where they still need work. More often than not, your swimmer is their own worst critic. Take this opportunity to be a voice of encouragement. It will do more for their future in swimming than you may ever realize!

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to reach out. You can reach me by email at [email protected] or phone/text at (770)503-6514.

Have a good evening and we'll see you on Saturday!!
