Weekly Swim Update - CB Swim (10/30)
Hello swim families!
What a great start to the season we've had! I'm so proud of all of our swimmers who are putting in the hard work and it is paying off in the pool. We have seen such remarkable changes in our swimmers already from dropping time on events, to learning how to dive, to mastering the flip turn. We are on the way to what I think is going to be our best year yet! I've included the results from this past weekend if you'd like to check them out.
This week we will make a SLIGHT change in our practice schedule due to Halloween being on a Monday. For Monday's practice ONLY we will combine our high school and middle school practice to a shorter 5 - 6 pm practice at the YMCA only. This should allow for us to get in an important practice, and still get home in time for trick or treating fun.
Based on this, our schedule will be:
- Monday, October 31: 5 - 6 PM (all swimmers @ YMCA)
- Tuesday, Nov 1: 6 - 7 AM (all swimmers @ YMCA)
- Wednesday, Nov 2: 5 - 6:30 PM (HS swimmers @ YMCA) 6:30 - 7:30 PM (MS swimmers @ YMCA)
- Thursday, Nov 3: 6 - 7 AM (all swimmers @YMCA)
I know that it can sometimes be difficult to get your swimmer to all the available practices in a week, however, the best way to see the most improvement in your swimmer is for them to spend as much time in the water as they can. Each practice we focus on implementing and learning different skills and aspects of getting better, so if your swimmer is only attending a minimum number of practices, they are missing out on important instruction and drill that they won't get on other days. Although I have posted about "minimum" expectations of practice - this should be the exception not the rule.
As coaches we expect all swimmers to be at as many practices as they possibly can each week. There are four practices available for all swimmers per week, and the expectation is that swimmers are at all practices. I understand if there are travel issues or prior obligations, but like any team, practicing as a team is important to building the skills necessary to build and strengthen a team. The only exceptions are those swimmers who are participating in club swim (and this is because they are practicing with a club team during this time frame). As we are navigating the remainder of the season, please keep this in mind as you set up work and transportation schedules. The more we practice, the better we become! If you are having trouble with transportation please reach out and we will try to coordinate car pools, etc. to help you to get there. If you aren't already a part of our team GroupMe this is a great way to coordinate and find out important information. If you would like information about joining reach out via email or text and we can get you added!
Thank you for each of our volunteers this week. We had so many compliments from the coaches and parents from the other teams and it was all due to your hard work! Our next High School meet will be this upcoming weekend and then there will be a combined Middle school/High school meet the following week (November 12th) back at Frances Meadows (where we were this weekend) again. Be looking for sign ups and information on Monday/Tuesday this week.
As always, if you have any questions please don't hesitate to reach out via email at [email protected] or via text (770) 503-6514.
Looking forward to a great week ahead!
Coach Goodwin
