Team Captain Voting is OPEN
Hello swim families,
As we are approaching our first swim meet, one of the most important team decisions is upon us - team captain. This is a very important role, and one that we take seriously. This year, we've decided that we'd like the swimmers to have a voice in this decision as well.
Please have your swimmer go to the following site using their HallCounty account to place their vote for team captains. ALL swimmers can vote (middle and high school).
To learn more about this important team role, please read the following description.
The role of Team Captain is more than just a title. It is an important responsibility and privilege. Students who are named captains are held to a higher standard than the rest of the team. These are the students who represent the voice of the coaches to the team and, more importantly, the voice of the swimmers to the coaches. This role is the one that serves as the "go-between" to help swimmers get the most out of their season and coaches to get the most out of their swimmers. The characteristics of a good team captain are:
- Consistent - a team captain is consistent in their actions and regularly attends practices, meets, and team functions. (is this someone that you continually see? Are they at practices? Are they at team bonding?)
- Hardworking- A team captain constantly gives their all at practice or a meet. This doesn't mean that they are the fastest or most decorated, but instead, the most committed. (when they are at practice and on the deck, are they working or talking? Does the coach have to redirect them, or do they help to keep their lanes and the swimmers around them on task?)
- Positive - a team captain is always positive in conversations with and about the team and team members and coaches. (do you hear them talking positively about the team, or are they excluding others or engaging in negative talk or texts about the team or teammates?)
- Initiative - a team captain takes the initiative to do tasks they know need to be done and don't have to be told (do you see them helping others without being asked? Are they volunteering for activities or picking up trash, etc.?)
- Good Communicator - a team captain can communicate with peers and adults in a positive and respectful manner (are they helping to get information out to other members? are they able to express the needs of the team and coaches in a positive and respectful manner?)
Captains must be a senior or junior. They must already hold a varsity letter on the team. They must be in good academic standing in the school. Please choose your top ONE or TWO choices (boy or girl) from the options below (You do NOT have to choose based on gender. We will appoint the captains that are BEST for the TEAM as a whole... not based on team makeup). You will only have ONE vote and must vote using your Hall County account.
