Swim Update - October 29, 2023
Hello swim families!
What a great kickoff to our season! Thank you all so much for your help this weekend at the meet. We had such a great turnout and so many compliments, thanks to your hard work!
Thank you to those who got your entries in for this week’s upcoming meet quickly and with a short turnaround. We can’t open those until the teams send us the okay, and it was quick this week. We will hopefully have those uploaded soon.
One quick note - the entries are usually due on Sunday the week before the meet. For example, I had to turn those in tonight by 9 p.m. at the latest. We must know if you are or are not planning to be there by this time. We can sometimes get swimmers in late depending on the meet, but if so, we must put you wherever there might be space. This means it may be a race your swimmer doesn’t prefer to swim, and it is very unlikely they can swim a relay. Please login and get those entries by the deadlines each week. It is a lot of extra work on a Sunday evening for coaches to try to track down swimmers! If you need help logging in or resetting your password, please let me know!
The practice schedule will be the same this week as last week. I know that Trunk or Treat is happening on Monday, but we’re in season, so we will NOT be participating as a team and spend this time in the water preparing for our meet instead!
Congratulations to Jeff Wall, Riley Smith, and Ava Williams for qualifying for individual events in the GHSA state competition in our first meet! This is a huge deal and requires that these swimmers swim below a specific (very competitive and quick) posted time. We are super proud and excited for them. Riley and Ava are the first girls to qualify as individuals for our team for the state meet!!!
In addition, our girls 200 Freestyle Relay of Ava Williams, Kyleigh Giles, Abigail Lynch, and Riley Smith also qualified for state! State qualifications in our first meet are a great way to kick off an excellent high school season!
In addition, we saw many other significant firsts and accomplishments, from bravely jumping off the dive blocks for the first time, attempting flip turns for the first time in the competition, and some beautiful races to the finish. Keep up the great work, swimmers!
If you haven’t picked up your team sweatshirt yet, these will be available at Monday and Tuesday’s practices, so stop by and get them. T-shirts should be in next week, and we will let you know the plan for distributing those as well.
Have a great week, and we’ll see you at the pool!
Coaches Goodwin and Smith
PS - Results are attached if you'd like to see how our swimmers performed this weekend!
