Weekly Swim Update - Sunday, October 20, 2024
Hello CB Swim Families!
It’s an exciting week as we prepare to kick off our first meet week of the season! It will be a great opening week, and we’re so excited to get in the pool and get this season underway!
Some important info as we get into the week:
- Practice Schedule:
We will have our full practice schedule this week. As we prepare for our first competition, we’ll work on our speed, endurance, and fine-tuning technique, so the more practice you can make, the better! Below is our schedule.
**A quick update on our two practice “teams”... One interesting thing about swim is that the makeup of each season is entirely different from the last. The numbers, ages, and experiences often change. In our last season, for the first time, we needed to split and put some middle schoolers with our high school and vice versa. However, this year, we have an almost even split between the ages/levels. Therefore, the Bluff/Bears teams are more representative of what we have had in the past (and prefer) in terms of being a middle/high practice. While there are a few exceptions due to outside practices/needs, this is developmentally more appropriate for our swimmers. Middle school students can work on the distances/paces needed, develop camaraderie with their teammates and relay groups, and high school can do the same. Times and placements MAY change as needs change throughout the season. If this occurs or you have concerns, we are happy to reach out and discuss it individually with swimmers and parents. Please know that we are continuously taking careful consideration of swimmer's abilities and needs, and at least two coaches will be there to ensure that we are pushing every swimmer to be the best they can be! I’m excited about the great team of coaches that we have this season, and I think we’ll see some remarkable results in the pool!
2. Meet Information:
This week is our first meet of the season! We are hosting this meet, and for those of you who may be new to the team, we have a reputation for putting on the BEST meets. That has a LOT to do with you… the parent volunteers!
Thank you so much to those of you who have already signed up. We still need LOTS of timers to make this meet happen. It is super easy (all you have to do is click a button) and much cooler than sitting in the stands. It’s also the ONLY way to get onto the deck during the meet! Please consider signing up if you haven’t already (and if you also signed up for food… that’s okay! You can do both!)
I will send more specific information about the meet later in the week (Probably Thursday or Friday once I know more about the timeline, heat sheets, etc.), but for your planning purposes:
- All students are expected to ride the bus to the meeting. We will meet in front of the CBHS cafeteria at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday to travel together.
- All students are expected to sit with the team on Saturday, so be sure they plan on this. They’ll need a couple of towels and a refillable water bottle.
- While swimmers can leave when they are done, we encourage them to stay and cheer on their teammates throughout the meet—even when they are done. There is nothing like the excitement of having your teammates there to help you! The bus will return to CBHS at the end of the meet for pickups.
3. Gear:
Anyone who hasn't received at least a practice suit should receive those this week! Middle schoolers can come to Coach Goodwin's room, and High Schoolers can go to Mr. Rowland's room to pick it up. Hopefully, the remainder of the gear is on the way!
I know that’s a LOT of information! We’ll communicate more throughout the week, so be sure to check your email regularly. Thank you so much for your patience and excitement already! We are so ready to see how the hard work the students have been doing pays off!!!
GO BEARS!
